So Rock stands out from the pack on a Beijing magazine rack

The photo on the left was taken by Noah Weinzweig, who commented: "It's a good thing I'm Jewish otherwise I might be concerned by the influence of rock'n roll on my sage."

The pictured magazine is So Rock which is published by an independent record label run out of Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province. This is from the English introduction on So Rock's website:

As the first and the biggest REAL indie label in mainland China, So Roc Records! is responsible for all aspects of Chinese rock n' roll music — old school / thrash / black / death metal, electronic / techno music, alternative, underground and so on.

Our business includes marketing strategy to distribution to press releases to Rock n' Roll pubications. We have a zine named "So Rock!" as well. It is the biggest and most influential rock zine in mainland China too.

So Rock! magazine started in 1999. Since it was clamped down and unfairly treated all the time. Nowadays we boast more and more readers, inland and overseas.

So Rock Records! was founded in july 2000. In the same year, we signed "Stale Corpse" and released first Chinese brutal death metal album "Sounds Of Prison" in mainland China...
