The 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai province that killed 618 people and counting dominated front pages today. Most of the newspapers showed victims being dragged out of the rubble. However, the last of these newspapers, the Oriental Guardian, highlights a sad story about a Sichuan woman whose business was affected in the Wenchuan earthquake two years ago. She relocated to Qinghai to start a similar, mobile phone repair business. Where is she now? In Chonqing, news that its police chief Wen Qiang (文强) has been sentenced to death covered the papers. Earthquake news has been relegated to the top, in medium to small print, or the middle of the page. Lastly, Xin Bao and Strait News goes with the usual ad driven marketing practice: their front pages show little of what's happening in Yushu, concentrating rather on real estate and e-commerce ads. Youku has a photo montage of the events, whilst China Geeks has highlighted the 56 students who have been killed. Links and Sources

Hello,
I have been following China's news media for while now. I have not heard or seen any reports on Tibetan monks roles on the Yushu earthquake's relief efforts dramatic way. Why is that? According to our sources in Yushu, it was monks who arrived on the scene and digging bodies, delivery foods. Please check on this!

I've found some reports that have mentioned rescue efforts by monks, but perhaps not putting them in the spotlight as the main rescuers. This report in Chinese, for example. But I do agree that Tibetan monks are not a central focus in the Chinese media, and I think it's not unobvious the reason why.
If you're looking for western reports, since the beginnings of the earthquake many have responded with how the monks have responded and their awareness of supplies and other efforts, for example, The New York Times and The Guardian.
